2012 Red Blend
Coombsville AVA, Napa Valley, CA
What we love
Headed by Napa native Jason Holman and produced in limited quantities, Holman Cellars' 2012 “Uncharted” Red Blend is a silky, full-bodied wine, full of luscious fruit and mouth-coating tannins. Fruit is harvested healthy and ripe, then undergoes extended maceration before aging in neutral oak for 20 months. Pair with game, roasted veggies, or beef dishes – Bon appétit!
About this Wine
Bordeaux-inspired blends are a tradition for Holman Cellars. Jason has made a bold red blend, bottled under the name “Uncharted,” since his inaugural vintage of 2008. Each year, the percentages of varietals change but the goal remains the same: make the best possible red blend from what the vineyards gave them that year.
A few words on Coombsville—an appellation to know if you don’t know it already. Tucked up against the foothills of the Vaca Mountains, in the southeastern corner of Napa Valley, this bowl-shaped depression is well outside the mainstream. Most visitors to Napa don’t even know this place exists. Here, due to the proximity to the San Pablo Bay, daily temperatures can be as much as 10 degrees lower during the summer months than other appellations in Napa. As the climate warms, with its ensuing droughts and heat waves, it is a blessing to be in Coombsville, where Cabernet Sauvignon achieves its lustrous, deep fruit, and creating wines displaying more finesse than flash.
