2016 Chardonnay

Estate Vineyard, Willamette Valley, OR

  • What we love

Founded in 1977 and managed by second generation winemaker Ben Casteel. Gnarly old vines, geologically complex hillside soils, and direct impact from howling winds all conspire to create highly energized wines. Medium-bodied with a lovely creamy texture, it fills the mouth with apple pie, yellow citrus fruits, peaches, and accents of honey and toast. Rich yet balanced, this wine stands up nicely to wines that cost three times as much.

Ben Casteel

Owner + Winemaker

Established by two families in 1977, Bethel Heights was one of the first vineyards in the Eola-Hills, a chain of hills in the center of Oregon's Willamette Valley. Brothers Ted Casteel and Terry Casteel and their partners, Pat Dudley and Marilyn Webb, abandoned academia and together planted fifty acres of own-rooted heritage selections of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Now forty years old, these original vines are still going strong and producing some of the finest wines in Oregon.
