2016 Petite Sirah
Proof Vineyard, Napa Valley, CA
What we love
David DeSante and his wife Katherine have been creating sensational, fascinating wines in the Napa Valley since 2001. A blend of Petite Sirah (95%), Alicante Bouschet, and the ultra-rare Sauvignonasse (a white grape from the southern Rhône), this wine shows notes of blackberry, lavender, plum and a licorice-laden finish. Although it displays the typical fruitiness and rich texture of a Napa wine, there is a purity and elegance that makes it incredibly accessible. An ideal wine for red meat, game and savory meals.
About this Wine
The DeSante “Proof” Petite Sirah takes the name of an extraordinary site, Proof Vineyard – a wild and ruggedly beautiful place.
Farmed by two ladies in their 60s, Proof Vineyard is unique. Vines were planted in the 1880s, are not trellised, and there is no irrigation. No wonder why the roots run 30 feet deep! The only fertilizer applied is dried Norwegian kelp brought over in 1950 and absolutely zero chemicals are sprayed – instead, the vines are rubbed with garlic oil to prevent mildew.
This wine represents a rare opportunity to taste a unique expression of Napa Valley. It’s really a joy to taste and share. Enjoy!
