2016 "Bearwallow" Pinot Noir
Bearwallow Vineyard, Anderson Valley, Mendocino County, CA
What we love
The 2016 Halcón “Bearwallow” Pinot is delicious, comparing favorably to Burgundy. This medium-bodied Pinot features notes of wild raspberry, rhubarb, black tea, and earth, with cinnamon and cocoa accents. Fine tannins, a pleasant tang, and lingering savory goodness all make this quite a yummy wine.
About this Wine
It’s tricky to make a delicious, truly delicious, Pinot Noir from an “extreme” vineyard like Bearwallow, but winemaker and owner Paul Gordon knows how and has achieved it in his first release of Pinot Noir from this vineyard site.
Bearwallow is located in the very “deep end” of Anderson Valley. It’s a very cool north-facing hillside vineyard with thin, rocky soils (most cool sites will face south to gobble up late-day summertime sun). We love the wild berry, elegant, mineral driven Pinot produced by these “deep end” hills. Enjoy!
