  • What we love

Swiss-born winemaker and owner Markus Niggli is producing some of the Lodi’s most serious white wines. This 2016 Dry Gewürztraminer is wildly aromatic, displaying notes of plumeria, ginger, lychee and banana. This wine tells an opulently fragrant story, but the palate is so restrained. Exquisite.

Markus Niggli

Owner + Winemaker

Markus Niggli, founder of Markus Wine Co. in Lodi, California, is an exceptionally talented and savvy winemaker who started making his own small-production line of edgy, artisanal white wines in 2010.

I was captivated by Markus’ fascinating array of contemporary style wines from the moment I tasted them. Markus' wines take Lodi to another level.

When Markus launched his wines, he definitely took the road less traveled in Lodi. It wasn’t the region’s familiar Chardonnay that Markus reached for to make his avant-garde white wines. No, this Swiss winemaker returned to his roots for inspiration and opted for more obscure German varieties. He took, as he put it, “a calculated risk.” It has certainly paid off.
