2016 Red Blend
Napa Valley, CA
What we love
The 2016 “Keep” from Shypoke Cellars is a unique blend of Grenache, Charbono and Petite Sirah. It’s complex, deep, and wonderfully fun to drink. The result is both interesting and delicious. Enticing aromatics lead to savory, red fruit tones while remaining fresh and focused. We’re enamored by its opulence and that it can be served to anyone, knowing that they would absolutely love it. Its rustic charm and decadent huckleberry pie flavors make this the perfect wine to delight your guests at your next dinner party. Just 11 barrels made!
About this Wine
The origin of the ‘Keep’ name stems from an embarrassment of stunning Grenache that winemaker Peter Heitz has to play with. Some of that Grenache is made into 100-percent Grenache wine, but so good are the remaining barrels, that he writes “keep” in chalk on them – as in no-way, no-how are these barrels going to be sold to anyone else.
An infusion of Charbono for baritone tannins, a fist pump of old vine Petite Sirah for dark berry fruitiness, and the stunning complexity of Grenache perfection all come together to make a wine that is both interesting and delicious.
If this was made by one of the bigger brands in Napa, it’d be priced at $75 a bottle… and, to be honest, it’d still be worth the money. Enjoy!
