  • What we love

Owner and winemaker Russell Joyce, who is a big Riesling geek himself, wanted to make a standout and exciting Dry Riesling. He’s succeeded. His 2018 Dry Riesling is bursting with energy and impressive for its superb line of minerality and flavor complexity. It shows what careful farming and winemaking can do with this varietal in California. This excellent and well-made white deserves your attention.

About this Wine

This wine smells and tastes like a tropical vacation – lychee, nectarine, kiwi, and blood orange. Its level of freshness, complexity, and slightly creamy mouthfeel all make the 2018 Joyce Dry Riesling compelling. Just 600 cases made.

A fun food wine, Riesling is quite versatile, enjoying the company of sweet-fleshed seafood like sole, halibut and cod, as well as shrimp and fresh oysters. And if you like spicy foods, Riesling is your wine. Enjoy!

  • Technical Data:
  • 100% Riesling
  • Alcohol: 12.5% | pH: 3.12 | Residual Sugar: 3.5 g/L
  • Winemaking: Joyce Wine Co. crafts their Rieslings in the purest way they know how. Grapes are grown by veteran farmers, Luis Zabala and Joe Alarid, both of whom have been farming in the Salinas Valley for over three decades. The fruit was hand-harvested, foot-treaded to break the berries, fermented at cool temperatures, and finished dry. The wine was then aged on its lees for six months before being filtered prior to bottling. This wine sees minimal sulfur, only using a limited amount to ensure stabilization.

Russell Joyce

Owner + Winemaker

As a kid, Russell Joyce would come home after baseball practice and help pick grapes in his father’s yard with his cleats still on. Now, his dad’s hobby (“Drink wine and stomp up the grapes,” as Joyce puts it) has grown into a family business, and Joyce, 33, is coming into his own as a winemaker – and proving to be a very innovative and talented one at that.

The boutique winery hand-crafts artisan wines from both their small estate vineyard in Carmel Valley as well as from several other special vineyard sites throughout Monterey County, partnering with local farmers who respect the land and the coastal terroir.

Joyce Wine Co.'s entire portfolio of wines are some of the best in Monterey. This winery is a label to watch and should you find yourself in Carmel Valley, be sure to stop by their lovely tasting room.
