2019 Sauvignon Blanc
Herron Vineyard, Sonoma Mountain, CA
Maître de Chai
What we love
Maître de Chai’s 2019 Herron Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc is richly textured, closer in style to white Bordeaux than Sancerre, with an umami-rich aroma on the nose. Ripe nectarine, citrus fruit, and lemongrass are what dominate the palate in this this uber refreshing glass of California sunshine.
About this Wine
If Sauvignon Blanc fell out of favor with you over the years, this is one bottling that will bring it all back. Winemakers Marty Winters and Alex Pitts are some of our favorite up-and-coming producers: Young, talented, and focused on making interesting and delicious wines from extraordinary vineyards in California.
Planted in 1969, the Herron Vineyard is a 1.5-acre parcel of Sauvignon Blanc on Sonoma Mountain, one of the oldest Sauvignon Blanc plots in the US. These 50-year-old vines are tended by hand and farmed organically, and yield flavorful and complex Sauvignon Blanc grapes.

Owners + Winemakers
Established in 2012, Maître de Chai was started by Marty Winters and Alex Pitts. Maître de Chai translates to cellar master, or the person responsible for the development and aging of wine.
Marty and Alex source from distinct vineyards in California; often they have close relationships with the growers and in some cases do the work themselves. Herron Vineyard is a 1.6-acre, cool-climate site in the Sonoma Mountain AVA with 65-year-old dry-farmed, organic vines; Stampede Vineyard, located in Lodi’s Clements Hills AVA, is an own-rooted, dry- farmed Zinfandel parcel planted in the 1940s.
