What we love
Like any good Riesling, this wine is extremely expressive on the nose — they call Riesling an “aromatic white” for a reason — and reminds me of peach nectar, with a strong fragrance of honeysuckle. The wine’s modest residual sugar amplifies the flavors of melon, apricot and pear, making the fruits taste riper and dripping with juice. It’s not a dessert wine; drink it with dinner. Pork chops would be great.
About this Wine
To taste a prime example that proves a little sugar can be a good in a wine, try Brooks Winery’s stunning 2019 Willamette Valley Riesling, from Oregon. At $23, it’s not much more expensive than the down-market Rieslings that might have turned you off from the category — but tastes a whole lot better. Cheers!

Janie Brooks Heuck & Pascal Brooks
Owners
Founded in 1998 by Jimi Brooks, who was a talented winemaker and known for his strong commitment to sustainable and biodynamic wine making. Sadly, Jimi passed away unexpectedly in 2004, and the winery is now owned by his 17-year old son, Pascal, who runs the winery with Jimi’s sister Janie Brooks Heuck.
Chris Williams became Brooks’ full-time winemaker in 2005 and has brought continuity to Brooks wines, sharing Jimi’s philosophy and style, and continuously showcasing the elegance of small-production Riesling and Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley.
