Founded in 2001 by two childhood friends, Macauley Vineyard are advocates for naturally produced, single-vineyard bottlings from the Golden State. The 2017 Bacigalupi Chardonnay is expressive and balanced, showing notes of cream, pear, hazelnut, and apricot, with stony minerality and a hint of yeastiness. All around delicious.

Uniquely fermented and aged in three different vessels (concrete, stainless steel and French oak), the 2017 Chardonnay brings out the famous Bacigalupi terroir and builds on the minerality that the concrete vat offers. A spectrum of earthy notes, from wet grey stone to white clay, expands with increased temperature – if too cold, this wine opens rather slowly. Winemaker Kirk Venge suggests that this wine be poured at 38 to 42 degrees Fahrenheit to get the most out of the glass. Only 300 cases made! Enjoy!
